Toast walnuts in skillet until fragrant and browned, set aside to cool.
Sauté onions in oiled skillet for 4-5 minutes until onion are translucent. Set aside. Add walnuts too blender with seasonings and liquid smoke. Blended until well blended.
Mash the black beans with a folk until about 90% mashed. Add in onions, walnut mix, bbq sauce, bread crumbs. Mix well until well incorporated.
Divid mixture into 5 patties. Shape into patties. Place on parchment paper if you decied to bake. Bake for 15 minutes each side. Patties able to cook on skillet or grill as well. 5-7 minutes each side.
