Sure, you could head to the grocery store and purchase some veggie black beans burgers. But why would you do that when you can whip up some super good and simple Black Bean Burgers?
This recipe involves most things that you probably already have in your pantry.
Burgers are always our go to for a quick bite in a busy week with life coming at you 100 miles an hour. David eats a lot and so do I but these, these will fill you up with no issue. Make these on a Sunday, toss them in the oven when you’re ready to eat and BAM. Dinner is served. Easy, right? Right.
Things you need to make the Simple Black Bean Burgers:
- Brown Rice
- Raw Walnuts
- Chili Powder
- Liquid Smoke
- Black Beans
- Bread Crumbs
- BBQ Sauce
The assembly of these bad boys is not hard at all.
Cook your rice. Place in bowl.
Cook your diced onion in an oiled skillet. Cook until translucent. Place in bowl with rice.
Place walnuts, cumin, chili powder, and liquid smoke into blender. Blend until fine. Add into bowl.
Mash black beans until about 95% mashed. Some whole beans are okay. I used a fork, but any utensil will work. Add into bowl.
Add bread crumbs and BBQ sauce into a bowl. Mix all ingredients together. Using your hands in this process may work better than a utensil.
These are great for grilling, on the stove top or the oven as well.
We popped ours in the oven for 20 minutes at 375ºF.

Rice Black Bean Burgers
Add these hearty burgers to your weeks meals, and don't be sorry!
- 1 Cup Brown Rice, cooked
- 1 Raw Walnuts
- 1/2 Onion, diced
- 1 TBSP Cumin
- 1 TBSP Chili Powder
- 1 TBSP Liquid Smoke
- 1 Can Black beans, drained/rinsed
- 1/2 Cup Bread Crumbs
- 2 TBSP BBQ
Toast walnuts in skillet until fragrant and browned, set aside to cool.
Sauté onions in oiled skillet for 4-5 minutes until onion are translucent. Set aside. Add walnuts too blender with seasonings and liquid smoke. Blended until well blended.
Mash the black beans with a folk until about 90% mashed. Add in onions, walnut mix, bbq sauce, bread crumbs. Mix well until well incorporated.
Divid mixture into 5 patties. Shape into patties. Place on parchment paper if you decied to bake. Bake for 15 minutes each side. Patties able to cook on skillet or grill as well. 5-7 minutes each side.
Enjoy hot with favorite toppings and a bun!
